The story behind this meme
A bystander raises a hand and shouts the line that named the meme: stop, he's already dead. The dramatic movie moment became the internet's perfect caption for overkill — extra homework on a finished unit, a fifth paragraph nobody asked for, beating a dead argument. Two boxes divide the scene: what is still being done, and the reminder it ended long ago. It is melodrama at its finest, and everyone recognizes the feeling of watching effort continue past the finish line. Use it kindly, ideally about things, not people.

Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
The phrase suggests a fight, but the still is just a man shouting — teachers of younger kids can frame it as a dramatic stage moment. It excels at teaching knowing-when-to-stop: editing essays, ending debates, wrapping labs. Students caption their own "already dead" moments, from beat jokes to finished projects. Knowing when to stop is a skill in every subject.
