The story behind this meme
Behold stonks: a gray, suited statue of a man standing before a chart arrow that points up with total confidence, despite everything. The intentionally misspelled word for stocks appeared around 2019 and became the internet's favorite parody of financial genius. The two labels name the brilliant investment and the deserved result. The joke targets every decision that feels smart in the moment and collapses immediately after. Use it for anything purchased, chosen, or announced with misplaced confidence. The arrow only goes up.

Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
A gray cartoon figure and a chart keep this safe, though the joke language suits older students studying finance. Economics teachers can use it to introduce markets, risk, and why confidence is not analysis. Students can track a pretend portfolio and log their stonks moments honestly. Media literacy classes can compare real financial headlines with meme logic for a memorable lesson.
