The story behind this meme
In 2015, a heartfelt Facebook post from Pakistan declared that a friendship had ended and introduced a new best friend, complete with photos of both. The internet fell in love with its brutal simplicity. The template keeps two labels: the old friend who is out, and the new best friend who is in. It works for any loyalty switch, from food to apps to sleep schedules. The formal announcement of a minor breakup is the joke, especially when the replacement is clearly a downgrade.
