The story behind this meme
This one comes from a famous bank scene in the adult cartoon South Park, first broadcast in 2009. A cheerful teller takes a customer's money, sounds hopeful for about two seconds, and then announces the funds have simply vanished. The internet clipped that moment into the perfect label for anything that disappears the instant you look away. The template's rhythm is its power: the top line presents something you briefly had, and the bottom line watches it evaporate. Money, free time, phone battery, and motivation all work equally well.
Caption ideas
- Money: My paycheck arrives on the first / Aaaaand it's gone by the fifth
- Study mode: My motivation on Monday morning / Aaaaand it's gone by lunch
- School life: Summer freedom after final exams / Aaaaand it's gone into summer reading
Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
The source is a grown-up cartoon, so teachers of younger kids should frame it simply as a banking joke. Older students love it for economics: demonstrate how fees, interest, and impulse spending drain an account, then have them caption their own vanish scenarios. It also makes a funny hook for lessons about fleeting fame in media studies.
