The story behind this meme
The instruction comes from one of video game history's most debated missions. In the 2009 release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a character says 'Remember, no Russian' before a scene so controversial that newspapers discussed it for months. The line became bigger than the mission: a cold, quiet order to leave one thing out, which is a surprisingly useful comedic structure. The two-line formula is a briefing: the top line sets the high-stakes situation, and the bottom line is the deadpan exception or reminder, like 'bring snacks' or 'text when you arrive.' Aimed at family road trips and group projects, the drama of the delivery becomes the joke. The game stays out of the joke; the format travels.
Caption ideas
- Family: Operation: clean the house before grandma arrives / Remember: no arguing about the thermostat

Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
The template references a violent game mission, so it suits older students in a framed media-literacy discussion. Teachers examine why one line of dialogue outlives its scene, then debate how games frame right and wrong. Captions in class stay on everyday 'mission briefings' like chore lists. The line-versus-scene analysis surprises students every single year.
