The story behind this meme
Every now and then an official says something so circular it becomes legend. 'In terms of money, we have no money' belongs to that family: a budget statement that manages to be perfectly honest and completely useless at the same time. The format spread as a shorthand for empty official language - announcements that sound informative but explain nothing. Its two boxes echo the structure: the first promises clarity, the second delivers a shrug. Point it at school budgets, group project planning, or any conversation where nobody wants to admit the real answer.
Caption ideas
- School life: Club treasury report, spring semester / Balance: three dollars and an IOU
- Money: My savings plan for this year / In terms of savings: no savings
- Work: Boss asks about the project timeline / The timeline is a feeling, not a date
Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
This one is a gift for language arts. Teachers use it to teach circular reasoning, empty phrases, and how to say something clearly instead of officially. Students rewrite official-sounding sentences in plain words, then judge which version communicates better. It also fits economics lessons on budgeting, where honest numbers matter more than impressive vocabulary.
