The story behind this meme
The advice-animal era loved innocence, and this kid — seated at an old computer, trying the internet with complete sincerity — became its mascot for newcomers. The template had its run in the early 2010s and survives wherever beginners gather, because every online space constantly welcomes people who just arrived. The formula is a two-line beginner's mistake: the top line shows the enthusiastic first attempt, like replying to a years-old thread, and the bottom line shows the internet's response or the lesson learned. Use it for first video calls, first forum posts, and parents discovering emoji. The kindness underneath the joke is what keeps it alive — everyone posting it was once the kid, and everyone knows it.
Caption ideas
- School life: Replies to the class forum from 2019 / The teacher's inbox is confused but proud
- Family: Dad discovers the group chat poll feature / There are now fourteen polls; none matter

Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
An old computer and a cheerful kid are entirely safe content. Digital citizenship teachers use it to normalize beginner mistakes: students share their own 'first day online' stories, then list three unwritten rules every newcomer should know. The stories are always excellent. The unwritten-rules list becomes a class constitution quickly.
