The story behind this meme
Some memes are one joke told once; this format is a joke that can be told forever. It grew out of a 2015 news scandal, but it survived on pure remix energy, because the premise — a trusted anchor who has personally witnessed everything ever — never stops being funny. Editors dropped him into album covers, paintings, battles, and birthday parties. The two-line version keeps the gag portable: the top line claims impossible attendance, and the bottom line adds the newsroom polish, such as a solemn witness quote or a smooth sign-off. It is the perfect way to roast the friend who says they were 'basically there' for everything, from concerts they missed to group chats they left.

Classroom-safe & how teachers use it
The template is silly photoshopping with a real lesson inside. Media-literacy teachers use it to explore credibility and exaggeration: students invent 'eyewitness' claims, then the class checks how each one falls apart. History teachers assign 'the anchor was there' reports from ancient events for a fun summarizing exercise. It turns fact-checking into a game.
